On 31 March 2012, Angklung Eindhoven travelled to Den Haag to give performance at “Pasar Malam Indonesia”, an annual event hosted by the Indonesian Embassy in Den Haag.
This event was meant to promote Indonesian art, culture, and tradition; and was predictably attended by many Indonesian and non-Indonesian citizens in the Netherlands. Once again, Angklung Eindhoven participated in an international cultural festival. The event this time was organized by the TU/e on December 12th, 2011. As illustrated by its theme “Connect with my Culture”, the event promoted internationality using a concept of “World Market” and “World Stage” with more than 20 participants, including Indonesia.
“Connect with my Culture” presented a number of performances from various countries, such as Iranian dance, Venezuelan latin music, Mexican mariachi, and Indian bollywood dance. In the middle of the crowd full with bright chatter and laughter, Angklung Eindhoven managed to attract the attention with the traditional songs from Aceh (Bungong Jeumpa) and Papua (Yamko Rambe Yamko).
In addition to these traditional songs, Angklung Eindhoven also performed two other songs. Angklung Eindhoven opened their performance with a popular song from the Netherlands “Tulpen uit Amsterdam”. The most enthusiastic applause was given for the final song, “We are the champion” from Queen.
